Get Your Home Spotless With The Ultimate Deep Cleaning Checklist

It’s that time of year again. That’s right: time for spring cleaning. Dust off your cleaning supplies and get ready to truly make your home look as good as new. Deep cleaning is a lot of work, but we’re here with a quick deep cleaning checklist that will make it a breeze. So grab your rubber gloves and read on to learn more!

Quick Deep Cleaning Tips To Help Clean Your Home Efficiently

Before we go room-by-room, let’s talk about a few easy and quick deep-cleaning tips you can use for every room in the house. These tips will apply whether you’re cleaning the kitchen or the office.

Declutter First

If you’re doing a complete deep clean, it’s likely been a while since your last major cleaning session. So we recommend starting with a quick declutter before picking up your first rag.

When too much clutter is lingering around, it’s difficult to tell what’s dirty. Clutter hides dirt and grime. Unfortunately, clutter also makes it more difficult to clean.

Go From High to Low

When you’re dusting and sweeping, go from high to low. This way, dust or dirt that falls from higher surfaces will be swept, mopped, or vacuumed later.

Window Deep Cleaning Tips

It’s easy to forget your windows while you’re cleaning! Spritz your windows with a glass-cleaning solution and allow it to sit for a few minutes. In the meantime, wipe down the sills and dust the blinds. Then, wipe the windows clean. If you have curtains, this is a good time to vacuum and fluff them.

Must-Have Supplies To Deep Clean Your House Or Apartment

Here’s a quick rundown of some supplies you should have on hand. We recommend keeping them in a rolling cart you can take with you from room to room.

You’ll need the following:

  • Baking soda

  • White vinegar

  • Dish soap

  • All-purpose cleaning solution

  • Glass cleaner

  • Microfiber cloths or rags

  • Sponges

  • Vacuum and mop

  • Lint roller

  • A variety of brushes (old toothbrushes, soft paintbrushes)

  • Gloves

  • Toilet bowl cleaner

You may end up using only some of these supplies, and you may have your own preferences. Nevertheless, these are our personal must-haves.

Bedroom Deep Cleaning

Let’s start with the bedrooms. You deserve a clean and fresh place to sleep, so let’s get to work!

Remove (and Replace) Bedding

Strip the bed of all sheets, comforters, blankets, and pillowcases. Put them in the washing machine, so they’re fresh and clean by the end of the day. In the meantime, you can freshen your mattress.

Sprinkle baking soda on the mattress to remove odors. Vacuum it up in about an hour. Consider leaving the window open to freshen the room if it's warm.

After vacuuming up the baking soda, put fresh bedding on the bed.

Remove Items From the Floor

Make sure there’s nothing on the floor. Put laundry in the hamper, garbage in the garbage can, and any other items where they belong. If you lack space, consider investing in more storage.

Clean the Closet

This is a great time to clean and declutter your closet.

Get rid of any clothing that you no longer wear. A quick tip: When wearing something, place the hanger back in the closet backward. When it’s time to declutter, it will be easy to see what clothing items you no longer use.

If you cycle out your closet seasonally, do so now.

Dust and Vacuum

Dust any and all surfaces in your room. Don’t forget the baseboards, windowsills, and doorframes! When you’re done, vacuum the floors (or sweep if you have hardwood or laminate floors).

How to Deep Clean Living Room and “Bonus Rooms”

Onto your living room and “bonus rooms.” “Bonus rooms” are other living spaces like offices, sitting rooms, and guest rooms. Of course, everyone’s living area is different, but here’s a quick rundown.

Clean the Furniture

Depending on your furniture types, the way you clean them will vary.

For upholstered furniture, remove cushions and vacuum underneath them. If the covers are removable, this is an excellent time to remove them and put them in the laundry. If you have throw blankets, put them in the laundry as well.

Use a wood cleaner to wipe down any wooden furniture.

Remove Items From the Floor

Ensure any toys, clothes, or other items are off the floor. Also, don’t forget to check underneath the furniture (especially if you have children or pets).

Wipe and Dust All Surfaces

Wipe down all visible surfaces with an all-purpose cleaner and a microfiber cloth. Don’t forget to get behind decor items and electronics. You don’t have to remove everything, but you want to get into all the nooks and crannies.

Small paintbrushes or a toothbrush can help you get into hard-to-reach spaces.

Vacuum

It’s time to clean the floors! If it’s been a while, consider moving your furniture aside so you can vacuum underneath. This isn’t necessary, but you’ll get a more comprehensive clean.

Kitchen Deep Cleaning

So many of us dread cleaning the kitchen! Don’t worry. We’ll make it easy.

Clean Kitchen Appliances

This is the most time-consuming task. We recommend giving the refrigerator a whole cleaning day if it’s been more than 30 days since you last cleaned it. You’ll need to remove everything, wipe down the shelves, throw out old items, and put everything back.

Make sure your oven is empty, and wipe down the interior. Don’t forget the glass! Wipe down your stove as well. If necessary, replace drip pans with new and clean ones.

Run the dishwasher with a cup of vinegar in the top section while it's empty.

Wipe Kitchen Cabinets and Drawers

Remove all items from your cabinets. Throw out anything you no longer need. Wipe the shelves with an all-purpose cleaner and a microfiber cloth. Put everything back neatly.

Clean Countertops

Once your cabinets are clean, use a sponge or microfiber cloth to clean your cabinets with an all-purpose cleaner. Use a dry cloth to get rid of any crumbs or debris first.

Sweep and Mop

Sweep up anything that made its way onto the floor from the countertops. Once the floor is free of debris, mop it up! Remember to mop your way out of the room, so you don’t get trapped.

How to Deep Clean the Bathroom(s)

Bathrooms are easy to clean once you have a routine! This should only take a few minutes.

Clean the Toilet

Put your toilet cleaning solution in the toilet and scrub it with a brush or sponge. If you’re using a sponge, don’t forget to wear gloves! Let the cleaning solution sit in the bowl until you’re done cleaning the rest of the bathroom.

Clean and Rinse the Shower and the Sink

Use your favorite all-purpose cleaning solution and a sponge to wipe down the shower, sink, and bathtub. If you have any stubborn marks, you can leave the cleaning solution to sit for a few minutes. A quick tip: turn on the shower to rinse the tub quickly.

Clean the Bathroom Cabinets

Clean out your cabinets and discard any products or medications that are no longer good. Then, wipe down the interior and put your items back.

Wipe the Mirror and Countertops

Get your mirror bright and shiny. Wipe down your counters, and don’t forget to clean underneath any items you have on top (like your toothbrush holder).
